Presentation and Interview - Annie Pfingst and Helen Poynor

In memoriam, an environmental dance film on the theme of loss, is the result of a twenty-year collaboration between movement artist Helen Poynor and visual artist Annie Pfingst which includes site-specific performances and installations in Australia, the UK and Java.

Their collaborative practice is grounded in a shared understanding of the moving body and of place. The in-depth working process, that includes kinaesthetic and visual research on site and open scoring, is predicated on a responsive partnership with the site that embraces both personal and environmental weather and constant change.  Editing becomes a collaborative process of distillation. Their work is informed by Anna Halprin’s Life/Art Process, in which they both trained. Equal weight is given to the human being/body in motion, the moving eye of the camera and the environment.
